SAN ANTONIO — A Von Ormy woman was sentenced in a federal court in San Antonio to two years in prison for aiding or assisting the filing of a false tax return.
According to court documents, Sandy Gonzalez operated at least two different tax preparation services in San Antonio—SV Tax and JNC Tax Professionals—between Jan. 1, 2018, and April 15, 2021. During that time period, Gonzalez knowingly and intentionally caused the submission of false tax returns to the IRS by preparing Forms 1040 for clients, which she was aware contained false and fraudulent information. Primarily, she reduced the amount of her clients’ reportable income by deducting losses on Schedule C for businesses that were either inflated or did not exist whatsoever. Her actions had the effect of improperly reducing the clients’ tax burden and/or increasing the amount of their tax refund.
Gonzalez was indicted for 10 counts on April 3, 2024, and pleaded guilty to one count in December 2024. In addition to her two-year imprisonment, Gonzalez was ordered to pay $297,777 in restitution.
Acting U.S. Attorney Margaret Leachman for the Western District of Texas made the announcement.
IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Chung prosecuted the case.
IRS-CI is the criminal investigative arm of the IRS, responsible for conducting financial crime investigations, including tax fraud, narcotics trafficking, money-laundering, public corruption, healthcare fraud, identity theft and more. IRS-CI special agents are the only federal law enforcement agents with investigative jurisdiction over violations of the Internal Revenue Code, obtaining a 90% federal conviction rate. The agency has 20 field offices located across the U.S. and 14 attaché posts abroad.
